Next day, another train, this time to Florence. Refined Florence after Naples and Rome was a welcome change for us. We had tickets to Uffizi for the next day and for a day we mixed with the crowd. I have a feeling that Florence was Dan's most favorite city in Italy. It probably helped that Uffizi was great. Note to myself - how many great museums we saw together with Dan?
In the evening after Uffizi we took a train to Bologna staying in the same hotel (Mercure) I stayed the year ago. I had predicted that the best food during our trip would be in Bologna and I was right. In the morning we went to Ravenna (a repeat of my last trip) for a tour of the Byzantine churches and mosaics.
Out next big stop was Venice, but we stayed in Padua, half an hour from Venice trading a train ride for a good hotel and good food. Surprisingly (for me), Venice was less crowded than the last time I was there, but it is still a zoo. San Marco was opened and we spent a good hour there. There is something special about this place, one can almost feel how old are the walls there.
We stopped in Verona on the way back to Milan to see the Roman Arena and cheesy Casa Di Giulietta (her balcony is below).
