Leipzig and East Germany for a day

I had another business trip for a week to Leipzig. Originally I planned to take two days off to see Berlin and Dresden, but work took more time than planned and I had to cancel my trip to Dresden. This was my first time in Leipzig - the city (at least the central part) is clean and well maintained. There has been a lot of new development since Germany unification. I lived in a modern hotel (Radisson). The shower in my room had glass walls and there was no door in the bathroom! There seems to be a trend in European hotels - minimum privacy around the bathroom.
The center of Leipzig is pedestrian friendly with many shopping areas and department stores. There are a couple of churches and a monument to Goethe. German food and beer were excellent!
I made a side trip to Berlin for a day, unfortunately I left my camera at the hotel. On the other hand, the day was grimy and I had more time not worrying about taking pictures. I walked from Brandenburg Gate following Unter der Linden to the Museum Island. I spent most of my time in Berlin in 4 museums - Pergamon, Bode, and two art museums (all of them are conveniently located next to each). From there I went to Checkpoint Charlie and then back to the train station.
Berlin has a lot of new development with many buildings being reconstructed. It will be interesting to visit it in a couple of years to see the changes.
