Day three - Nikko

The first temple at Nikko was founded by Shodo Shonin in 7th century. Later the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu chose the place for his mausoleum. According to the guidebook "Nikko written with characters that mean sunlight, has become a Japanese byword for splendor". Unfortunately for me, it was raining almost all day long...
Shinkyo red-lacqured wooden bridge designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Beautiful Golden Autumn
Highly ornate Yomeimon gate when the weather is nice (the picture is borrowed)
Carving with three wise monkeys (hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil) decorates the sacred stable
Donated sake barrels as offering to gods
It was raining most of the day...
