Well, everything has to end, here is our last in Paris. As usually, in the morning we went to a museum. That day it was Louvre - to see what we didn't see the first time. I especially liked "The Life of Marie de Medici" by Rubens - Marie with Zeus and Hera, Marie with Christ, etc.
After the museum we went straight to Gare du Nord to catch the train to London. We passed the border control, first French, then British. The British officer asked us how long we stayed in France.
-Five days, I replied, but it seemed like eternity.
He just nodded and smiled.
We had some time to kill at the train station to summarize our impressions. Paris is really empty in January, we didn't see huge crowds normally associated with Paris. I was comfortable enough to speak French most of time and did not have problems with communication. One guy in a restaurant was quite surprised about my accent (he couldn't guess where I am from), but people had no problems understanding me. At least, they did not ask: "Where are you from?"! The food was good (for me), though Dan was upset about milk with 80% fat and meat with too much fat. No, we did not eat frog legs, Japanese food or anything exotic. Compared with 1998 there are more Russians and less, er, Arab-French on the streets. Did one group just pushed out another? Louvre is still free the first Saturday of the month :)
